Xherdan Shaqiri apologies to Swiss fans: “The coach’s plan didn’t work.”

Speaking after Switzerland’s 6-1 defeat by Portugal in the last 16, former Liverpool and Lyon attacker Xherdan Shaqiri explained that coach Murat Yakin’s plan didn’t work while apologising to fans for the loss. Shaqiri said:

“The coach always gives us a plan, we then try to do our best on the pitch and today it didn’t work out. It was a bit of a surprise for everyone. We’re all professionals and we listen to the plan he gives us… We’re very disappointed. On behalf of the team, I apologise to all the fans that we weren’t able to put in our usual performance. We had big plans, but that’s football, from time to time limits are shown and that was the case today. We lost the game in the first half and then we were chasing the game.
