Xabi Alonso in the frame for Tottenham Hotspur job

According to Sky Sports, Bayer Leverkusen boss Xabi Alonso has emerged as a target for Tottenham Hotspur as they look to appoint a permanent manager.

Alonso’s side currently sit sixth in the Bundesliga and Spurs officials are reportedly admirers of the former Liverpool and Real Madrid midfielder.

Following the departure of Antonio Conte in March, the North London club appointed Cristian Stellini as caretaker manager until the end of the season. However, the 49-year-old left the role last month after a bruising 6-1 defeat to Newcastle United at St. James’ Park.

Ryan Mason became Spurs’ third manager of the season after he was named as Stellini’s successor on an interim basis.

Alonso is among a list of candidates that include Burnley manager Vincent Kompany and former Bayern Munich boss Julian Nagelsmann.

Sixth-placed Tottenham remain in a battle to secure European football ahead of next season after picking up just five points from a possible 18 in their last five games.
