Wolves star Matheus Cunha available for €75m after signing new deal

As reported by John Percy of The Telegraph, Wolverhampton Wanderers forward Matheus Cunha’s attains a €75m (£62.5m) release clause in his new contract.

The Brazilian signed onto a new four-and-a-half year deal with Wolves last week, but, with the release clause active from the summer of 2025, may not see out the full length of the contract.

Having signed for The Wanderers for a club-record €50m from Atlético Madrid in July 2023, if the clause were to be triggered, Cunha would also become the club’s record sale, ahead of Matheus Nunes’ €62m move to Manchester City.

After the 25-year-old accumulated 12 goals and seven assists in the Premier League last season, and continued that form into the next one, scoring 11 and assisting four in 21 starts under both former head-coach Gary O’Neil, and new boss Vitor Pereira.

Those performances have seen Cunha garner interest from the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea, Nottingham Forest, and Tottenham Hotspur in the January window, as he’s stood out as a shining light in a struggling Wolves side.

The Midlands side currently sit just two points above the relegation zone, and so expect Cunha to be a pivotal member of their squad as they battle for survival in the second half of the campaign.

Following an FA Cup tie away at Blackburn this Sunday 9 February, Wolves’ next top-flight game will come at Anfield against Arne Slot’s Liverpool on 16 February, as they look to provide a shock upset against the league leaders.
