Watch: Lionel Messi breaks MLS record in 6-2 win vs New York Redbulls

Lionel Messi stole the show in Inter Miami’s huge 6-2 win over New York Red Bulls, registering a ridiculous six goal contributions in the second half alone.

It was the New York side that went into half-time 1-0 up thanks to Dante Vanzeir’s 30th-minute close-range finish. The Belgian’s goal gave them the chance of an impressive away victory, unfortunately for them, Messi and Co had different ideas.

The Argentine’s first assist came in the 48th minute, passing it to Matia Rojas who scored a sublime goal from outside the box.

Both players then combined yet again, this time with Messi scoring and Rojas assisting to give the home side the lead on the 50th minute.

Luis Suarez then got in on the action, scoring a hattrick, all assisted by partner-in-crime Messi, in just 12 minutes. New York Red Bulls did get a late consolation goal, but they were already routed.

Messi has now become the first player in MLS history to register five assists in a single game.
