Speaking after his nation’s 2-0 loss to Portugal, Uruguay and Atlético de Madrid defender José María Giménez bemoaned his team’s lack of an attacking attitude during the defeat, saying:
“The same thing happened in the first game when we drew with South Korea: we didn’t go out to win… We have a great team and great players and we can’t keep playing like we have been. It’s a shame, but against Ghana we’re going to give everything to qualify for the round of 16. But first, we have to change our mentality and enter the field with clear ideas, knowing what we have to do. Nothing can be blamed for this attitude, it was clear we finished the game very tired after the gigantic effort that we made. Now we have to turn the page, there is one more final left and we have to believe.”
Uruguay need to beat Ghana in their last Group H game to have any chance of making the last 16 in Qatar.
