Tottenham Hotspur eye James Ward-Prowse

According to the Daily Mail, Tottenham Hotspur are keeping tabs on Southampton captain James Ward-Prowse.

Spurs scouts ‘made a check’ on Ward-Prowse during Southamptons 3-1 defeat to Newcastle United at St. James’ Park last weekend. The North London club could make a summer move for the 28-year-old particularly if the Saints are to be relegated.

Newcastle are also thought to be interested in the 11-capped England international and are waiting to see what fee Southampton will demand if they drop to the Championship.

Ward-Prowse had scored seven Premier League goals this season whilst providing two assists in 34 appearances for the south coast club.

The midfielder has made over 400 appearances for the Saints after graduating from the academy.

Southampton remain rooted to the bottom of the table, six points adrift from safety with four games left to play.

They travel to the east midlands on Monday to face relegation-threatened Nottingham Forest at the City ground before hosting Fulham at St. Mary’s next weekend.
