Rodrigo De Paul: “The fans give me great joy, it was extraordinary.”

Speaking after Argentina beat Australia 2-1 to make the World Cup quarter-finals, Albiceleste midfielder Rodrigo De Paul said his team deserved to beat Australia but the Socceroo’s display underlined how even the World Cup has been. Meanwhile, the 28-year-old also praised his team’s fans for their support in Qatar:

“This is a very difficult World Cup. I heard that it this is the first time no teams have finished the group stage with maximum points – this World Cup is very even… You have to judge the entire game [against Australia]. We were superior, we had great moments and once again we had our number 10 [Lionel Messi] who unlocked the game for us… People are very excited and being able to bring joy to their homes… I was also on that side of things when I was a boy, I also felt the emotion of watching the team and I didn’t stop cheering. The fans give me great joy, today was extraordinary, I tell the people that we need them, and they made themselves felt.”
