Rigobert Song says André Onana could return to Cameroon squad

Speaking after his Cameroon side’s dramatic 3-3 draw with Serbia, coach Rigobert Song discussed goalkeeper André Onana’s departure from the squad.

The Inter Milan player was a surprise omission from the Indomitable Lions’ team for the crucial Group G game amid reports he would leave the camp following a disagreement with rookie coach Song.

“In a squad, we need a certain discipline,” explained Song at his post match press conference. “And when you don’t meet those criteria, the coach has to take responsibility, and that is what has been done. For the moment, I have asked him to wait [before leaving], it depends on him to change.”

Reports suggest the argument between the pair was due to Onana’s style as a less-than-traditional goalkeeper as the 26-year-old refused to change his way of playing. However, as Song suggests, Onana could yet return to the Cameroon squad for their final game with Brazil.
