Raheem Sterling left England’s World Cup base in Al Loulou after news broke that his family home was burgled. The 28-year-old has been with his family in Surrey to ensure that appropriate security is established before flying back to Qatar to rejoin the England Squad.
According to Sky Sports, Sterling will now head back to Qatar after being satisfied with the security measures in place, ahead of England’s quarter-final clash against World Cup holders, France.
England are due to train tomorrow at midday UK time in Al Wakrah, but it is not yet clear whether the Chelsea forward will take part.
Kalvin Phillips on Sterling’s return: “It will be a massive lift, Raheem is an amazing player. Having to fly home to deal with what’s gone on – we are just happy everything is alright, and he can rejoin us for this game, which we are looking forward to.” (Sky Sports)
