Poland coach describes “emotional” Robert Lewandowski after penalty miss

Speaking after Poland’s 0-0 draw with Mexico at the World Cup in Qatar in which Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski saw a penalty saved by Mexico keeper Guillermo Ochoa, as quoted by Wyborcza, Poland coach Czesław Michniewicz recounted an “emotional” scene as the 34-year-old watched replays of the incident:

“I sympathise with him. I know how a captain who misses a penalty feels. He was very emotional about it – we have a monitor in the dressing room and Robert watched the replays. He has to process it himself but he knows how to deal with these situations. As a group, we’ll help him and we know he will help us in the future… Great players miss penalties – Socrates, Zico, Platini, Maradona among others, that’s football.”

Poland will face Argentina and Saudi Arabia in the coming days in what is now a wide open Group C after Saudi Arabia’s shock 2-1 win over Lionel Messi and Co. yesterday.
