PLAYER RATINGS | Japan 0-1 Costa Rica

Japan picked up a narrow 1-0 loss to Costa Rica, who managed to stay in the tournament and enhanced their chances of making it to the next round.

A win for Japan would have taken them to the next round of the World Cup already but a loss for Costa Rica could have knocked them of the competition. But courtesy of Keysher Fuller’s late goal, Costa Rica managed to win a vital game.

Key performers

Maya Yoshida, 7: The ex-Southampton player was arguably Japan’s most important and best player today. He won both of his ground duels and won three aerial duels as well, while making one tackle.

Wataru Endo, 4: The midfielder had a poor outing and it led to Japan losing a fair amount of duels in midfield. He lost possession over ten times and lost a fair amount of ground and headed duels as well.

Keysher Fuller, 7: Fuller scored a goal and also put in a decent performance at right-back, winning five ground duels and he was often active in making runs forward off the ball.
