Speaking after his team’s exit from the World Cup in Qatar following defeat to Uruguay in Group H, Ghana coach Otto Addo confirmed he will resign from his role with the national team and return to Borussia Dortmund where he is part of manager Edin Terzic’s coaching staff. Addo explained:
“I always said if we qualified for the World Cup I’d resign afterwards, even if we were world champions. My family see our future in Germany. Football is beautiful, sometimes it’s ugly. It’s ugly for us today. We have to learn and I’m very sure we will learn from this in the future.”
Despite a dramatic 3-2 win over South Korea and strong second half against Portugal, eventually losing by the same score, Ghana were unable to repeat those displays after an early penalty miss from Andre Ayew in the 2-0 loss to the South Americans as the Black Stars finished bottom of their section.
