Nottingham Forest set to seal signing of Ibrahim Sangaré from PSV

As per Daniel Taylor of The Athletic, Nottingham Forest are set to seal the signing of PSV midfielder Ibrahim Sangaré.

It is understood that Forest have had a ‘breakthrough’ in negotiations with the Dutch giants, and a deal is set to be sealed once Brennan Johnson’s move to Tottenham is completed- which is currently ‘getting closer’, with negotiations advancing over a transfer for the 22-year-old forward.

The two sides are said to have a provisional deal in place over the signing of the Ivorian international, who will reportedly receive a significant pay rise on his current salary, as he is set to arrive at The City Ground in a deal worth upwards of £30m.

Forest have been keen admires of Sangaré’s for a while, and, with his excellent ball-winning, aerial ability, and proficiency at progressing the ball through both passing and carrying, he is set to be a valuable addition to their midfield next season.

Furthermore, following his 140 appearances for the side, the deal will see PSV make a significant profit on the €7m they signed the 25-year-old for from Toulouse in September 2020, and he is set to depart Eindhoven with his last game coming in their 5-1 victory over Rangers on Wednesday evening. This result saw them qualify for the Champions League group stage for the first time since the 2018/19 season- a round which the defensive midfielder has never competed in.

Steve Cooper’s side will face a race against time to get the deal completed before today’s deadline at 11pm, as they look to complete another of several signings that have already been confirmed over the past week. Chelsea’s Andrey Santos and Sevilla’s Gonzalo Montiel have both arrived on loan, as has Nuno Tavares from Arsenal with a €12m option-to-buy clause inserted into his contract, whilst young centre-back Murillo has also signed from Corinthians for €15m.

Steve Cooper will hope each of these new signings, and Sangaré, will be available for his side this Saturday, as Forest look to secure their second win of the campaign when they travel to Stamford Bridge to face Mauricio Pochettino’s Chelsea.
