New owner offers Jadon Sancho Manchester United lifeline

Sir Jim Ratcliffe has cracked the window open for Jadon Sancho to return to Manchester United after falling out with manager Erik ten Hag.

The England winger, currently back on loan at Borussia Dortmund may yet have a future with his parent club if Southampton’s Director of Football, Jason Wilcox joins the club as expected.

Manchester United are aggressively pursuing Wilcox to join their ranks as the new technical director, opening negotiations with Southampton who would prefer to keep Wilcox.

The Red Devils envision Wilcox as a vital component of their revamped backroom structure, spearheaded by Dan Ashworth.

Wilcox made a name for himself during his time at rivals Manchester City, initially as a coach before ascending to the position of academy director.

His notable contributions in the academy brought him into close proximity with Sancho, who emerged through Manchester City’s ranks before his move to Borussia Dortmund in 2017.

Despite currently being on loan at Dortmund following a fallout with Ten Hag, Sancho’s potential return to United in the summer could align well with Wilcox’s support.

“For a young kid playing his first Under-18s football match, I thought he was sensational,” Wilcox said at the time. “I’m really looking forward to working with him because he’s a talented boy who works really hard.”

Reports from the Manchester Evening News suggest that Wilcox maintains a strong admiration for Sancho stemming from their time together at City.

Sancho’s loan move back to Dortmund happened after a dispute with Ten Hag regarding his absence from a game against Arsenal in September, deepening the rift between player and manager.

Expected to rejoin Manchester United at the season’s end, Sancho is likely to pursue an exit amid strained relations with Ten Hag. Meanwhile, his influential performances for Dortmund, notably in their recent victory over Bayern Munich, underline his resurgence and potential return to Old Trafford.
