Muslim nations wanted Islamophobia awareness armbands during World Cup

Muslim majority nations in the World Cup wanted Islamophobia awareness armbands to be worn during the ongoing tournament.

Sky have reported today that Qatar and the other Muslim nations in the World Cup were actually in advanced talks about whether footballers could wear the Islamophobia awareness armband during games, amidst growing fears of Islamophobia across the world.

Sky News also have designs that could have been used for the movement and the designs feature the phrase ‘No Room for Islamophobia’ on them and it featured a Palestinian headscarf pattern too.

Talks were held before the tournament had started but FIFA informed them that the idea violated the rules of the organisation and that is why they were not allowed.
