As reported by Mexican outlet Record, Mexico’s Group C game with Argentina broke Spanish-language broadcast records in the USA on Saturday evening.
A total of 8.9 million viewers watched the game, which saw Argentina run out 2-0 winners and began at 2pm eastern time in the United States, on NBC’s Telemundo and Peacock services. More than 2 million of those viewers came from NBC’s streaming services alone while the figures surpassed the previous record of 5.7 million for Brazil’s 2-0 win over Serbia last week.
These figures also exceed the 7.2 million USA television viewers who watched the opening game of the World Cup over a week ago as Ecuador beat hosts Qatar 2-0, 3.2 million of which came from Spanish-language channels.
