Mexico coach: “We’re capable of creating 10 goal scoring chances and not taking any.”

Mexico coach Gerardo Martino says he is confident in his team’s ability to score goals. ‘Tata’ had been criticised for leaving proven goal threat Javier Hernandez, now 34, out of his squad before Mexico failed to find the net in both of their opening games at the World Cup. Martino, however, insisted he remains confident in what his team are doing ahead of the final must-win group game with Saudi Arabia tomorrow, saying:

“I’m against putting together formations where the players feel like they don’t have the tools to make them work… Argentina was rehearsed and what happens tomorrow will also be something that we have worked on… Fifteen days ago we played a game with Iraq and we scored four goals, if that’s a positive I don’t know, but we’re capable of creating 10 goal-scoring chances and not taking any, or creating five chances like against Iraq and scoring four goals. What worries me is that we put out a team that has the capacity to play.”
