Speaking at his press conference before his team’s final Group C game with Saudi Arabia on Wednesday, Mexico coach Gerardo ‘Tata’ Martino explained that his team won’t hide behind excuses should their World Cup end before the last 16. The Argentine coach said:
“There’s no room for excuses, we clearly have a match that we need to win. The truth is, if there’s something that this group has never done, it’s make excuses. Sometimes we have to face the realities of a situation but this group is a long way from making excuses, the only thing we need to do is to give answers to the Mexican people and, in no way, hide behind an excuse.”
Mexico must beat Saudi Arabia in their last Group C game to have any chance of making the last 16 in Qatar and continue their streak of making every World Cup second round since 1986.
