According to Fabrizio Romano, Mateo Kovačić is close to agreeing personal terms with Manchester City. Chelsea and City will be in direct contact now to discuss the fee and come to an agreement.
The Croatian international has made 221 appearances for Chelsea, scoring six goals and providing 15 assists.
Kovacic is currently valued by Transfermarkt at €40.00m, and this is the fee Chelsea are believed to desire to sell the central midfielder.
The hard-working Croatian has made 37 appearances this season in all competitions, scoring two goals and providing two assists. However, whilst the output is actually quite good compared to his usual productivity in front of goal from midfield, he has endured what many would regard as his worst season at Stamford Bridge, being in and out of the team all season.
Chelsea are looking for a complete midfield refresh and rebuild around record signing Enzo Fernández. The likes of Kovačić, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Mason Mount, N’Golo Kanté and Conor Gallagher have all been linked with moves away, with the likes of Manuel Ugarte and Moises Caicedo being heavily linked to come through the door.
