Manchester United send €60m verbal proposal for Atalanta’s Rasmus Højlund

According to Fabrizio Romano, Manchester United have sent their first verbal proposal to Atalanta for Rasmus Højlund.

The total package of the bid is worth €60m, with the bid structure offering a €50m fixed fee plus a potential €10m in add-ons.

However, United’s bid does fall short of the asking price for the Danish International, with the Italian side understood to have always wanted at least a €70m fee; which is significantly more than his €45m market value, according to Transfermarkt. However, this valuation has risen substantially since May 2022, where it stood at €4.5m.

Furthermore, with The Red Devils having been preparing a bid for the 20-year-old for a while, personal terms between the player and the club have already been agreed, despite Paris-Saint-Germain continuing to ‘insist’ with Højlund’s camp that he makes the move to Luis Enrique’s side rather than to Erik ten Hag’s

The interest from top European clubs in the precocious forward comes after his debut season in Serie A, where, after signing for Atalanta for €17.2m from Austrian side Sturm Graz in August 2022, he scored nine goals in 20 starts La Dea– impressing many with his excellent movement, speed, and power.

The Old Trafford club’s bid for Højlund marks their first official move for a new striker this summer, with several options already having been removed from their shortlist. Frankfurt’s Randal Kolo Muani and Napoli’s Victor Osimhen were both seen as too expensive, whilst the Dutch managers top choice, Harry Kane, was denied a move by Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy, who was determined not to sell his club’s record goalscorer to a Premier League rival.
