Manchester United held discussions with Antoine Griezmann’s representatives last summer in order to gauge whether the Frenchman would be interested in a move to Manchester United. (Sky Sports)
Football director John Murtough and recruitment consultant Tom Keane flew to Spain to agree a deal with Casemiro in August 2022 and they also made calls to schedule a meeting with Griezmann’s camp in Madrid.
Griezmann although flattered by United’s interest , opted to re-join Atletico Madrid as was his priority last summer.
The 31-year-old will only consider his Atleti future if Diego Simeone leaves.
Griezmann was heavily influential during France’s World Cup campaign as the 2018 winners finished as runners-up with Argentina winning in a penalty shoot-out.
Manchester United may return in the summer to try and sign Griezmann but with Ten Hag’s side currently missing a long-term number nine, it may not be a priority.
United spent over £200m last summer which meant the club opted for a budget replacement for Cristiano Ronaldo as Wout Weghorst joined the club on loan from Burnley this month.
