As per David Ornstein of The Athletic, Manchester United are close to signing Sergio Reguilón on loan from Tottenham.
The Spanish international has been granted permission to travel to Manchester to undergo a medical, and it is believed that The Red Devils are now ‘working’ to complete a deal.
United have been searching for a left-back following an injury to both Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia, and, although Chelsea’s Marc Cucurella was previously their priority target, Erik ten Hag’s side decided to back out of a deal for ‘footballing and financial reasons’ and turn their focus to the Spurs full-back instead.
Reguilón signed for The Lilywhites for €30m from Real Madrid in September 2020, and despite initially making an impression with his electric speed and crossing ability, he overall struggled to make an impact in his 52 Premier League appearances for the North London side. Subsequently, the 26-year-old was sent out on loan to Atletico Madrid last season, however suffered with injury and featured in just 317 minutes under Diego Simeone.
This news comes during what is set to be a busy two days for United, as they look to seal two deals before the transfer deadline on Friday 1 September; both for Reguilón and Fiorentina midfielder Sofyan Amrabat, the latter of which the Old Trafford club have attempted to strike a deal for all summer.
