Manchester City set to complete €60m deal for Rennes winger Jérémy Doku

As per Fabrizio Romano, Manchester City are set to complete a €60m deal for Rennes winger Jérémy Doku.

A verbal agreement is in place between the two sides, whilst personal terms have also been agreed, with the Belgian international set to sign onto a long term deal with following the completion of his medical- which is scheduled to take place later this week.

The move will see the French side make a significant profit on the €26m they signed Doku for from his boyhood side Anderlecht in 2020. Standing out with his explosive speed and exceptional dribbling ability, the 21-year-old comes off the back of an impressive season in Ligue 1, where he racked up six goals and two assists in 29 League appearances, 13 of which were starts.

This form has continued at the beginning of the new campaign, after the exciting winger having put in an excellent display in his sides’ 5-1 victory over Metz, where he scored once and completed nine out of his nine attempted dribbles.

However, a concern for City may be that the exciting winger has has faced significant injury issues in the past- picking up eight separate injuries over the previous two years, limiting him to just four starts in the 2021/22 campaign.

This move marks another stage in what has already been a hectic summer for Pep Guardiola’s side. stalwarts Riyad Mahrez and İlkay Gündoğan already have already departed, defensive duo Aymeric Laporte and João Cancelo are also set to be moved on later this week, whilst City have suffered an unexpected blow with Kevin De Bruyne out for ‘a few months’ with a ‘serious injury.’

The Citizens will hope their new Mahrez replacement Doku can avoid injury and continue his form heading into next season- as they look to build upon their historic treble winning season and claim a record fourth consecutive Premier League title.
