As quoted by Croatian outlet Sportske, speaking at a press conference before Croatia’s opening World Cup game with Morocco tomorrow, Luka Modrić said he would retire from international football if Croatia win the World Cup in Qatar this winter. Asked about his plans, the Real Madrid man and former Ballon d’Or winner, now 37, explained:
“If that’s what it takes for us to win, then I’ll say goodbye… I haven’t made a decision about it yet, I’m here to play a good tournament and that’s the only thing on my mind. We’ll see what we can do, we believe in our chances but we have to stay together like we have in recent matches. We have to take one game at a time as we have a tough match ahead of us, but I believe we can achieve a positive result.”
