Liverpool offer Rúben Amorim three-year contract

Liverpool have moved a step closer to appointing their successor to Jürgen Klopp.

That’s according to Portuguese journalist Pedro Sepúlveda, who reports that Liverpool have offered Sporting CP head coach Rúben Amorim a three-year contract. Positive negotiations between the two parties are ongoing and financial terms are almost agreed.

The appointment of Amorim would be a huge statement. The 39-year-old is regarded as one of best young coaches, and has caught the attention of Europe’s biggest clubs.

Sporting CP sit top of the Liga Portugal, four points ahead of Lisbon rivals Benfica. Since his appointment in March 2020, Sporting CP average 2.24 points per match, and it’s no wonder why they paid a substantial release clause to bring the former midfielder to the Estádio José Alvalade.

Furthermore, Fabrizio Romano reported that there is a verbal agreement in place between Amorim and Sporting CP that “he can leave for a fee of €10m if a big club makes a proposal, though his official release clause is €30m for other Portuguese clubs and €20m for other leagues.” (h/t: F365).
