The Athletic have reported that Leeds United are ready to make their first move of the transfer window, by moving for Chelsea’s Ethan Ampadu.
The 22-year-old spent last season on loan with Spezia in the Serie A, making 34 appearances, scoring one goal, providing one assist and keeping five clean sheets.
Ampadu played a mixture of defensive midfield and centre back for Spezia in the 2022/23 season, as this is common throughout his career, playing both of these positions. The Welsh international is viewed as a versatile player, who is comfortable in both of those positions, as well as at right back.
Transfermarkt value Ampadu at €9.00m, and with his contract expiring in 2024, Chelsea could be keen to earn some money on the 22-year-old they signed for around €3.00m from Exeter City.
Ampadu has had a host of loans now, including RB Leipzig, Sheffield United, Venezia and Spezia, and many believe the Welsh international would benefit from finding a permanent home to develop.
