Leeds United ready to move for Chelsea’s Ethan Ampadu

The Athletic have reported that Leeds United are ready to make their first move of the transfer window, by moving for Chelsea’s Ethan Ampadu.

The 22-year-old spent last season on loan with Spezia in the Serie A, making 34 appearances, scoring one goal, providing one assist and keeping five clean sheets.

Ampadu played a mixture of defensive midfield and centre back for Spezia in the 2022/23 season, as this is common throughout his career, playing both of these positions. The Welsh international is viewed as a versatile player, who is comfortable in both of those positions, as well as at right back.

Transfermarkt value Ampadu at 9.00m, and with his contract expiring in 2024, Chelsea could be keen to earn some money on the 22-year-old they signed for around €3.00m from Exeter City.

Ampadu has had a host of loans now, including RB Leipzig, Sheffield United, Venezia and Spezia, and many believe the Welsh international would benefit from finding a permanent home to develop.
