Speaking at an event in Michigan on the American economy, US President Joe Biden used his podium microphone to update the gathered press and supporters on the progress of the USA men’s national team at the World Cup.
President Biden’s speech took place during the match between coach Gregg Berhalter’s side and Iran in Group B. Seemingly finished with his address, the President, informed of the score by an aid, returned to his podium to relay to the crowd that the USA had won 1-0, thanks to Chelsea forward Christian Pulisic’s goal.
Biden said: “USA! USA! That’s a big game, man. When I spoke to the coach and the players, I said: ”You can do this.’ They went ‘ehhhh’ but they did it! God love ’em! Anyway, just thought you might want to hear,” before exiting.
The win means the USA make it out of Group B and will face the Netherlands on Saturday in the last 16.
