Joe Allen backs Gareth Bale and Aaron Ramsey to shine for Wales in England game

Wales stalwart Joe Allen, says teammates Gareth Bale and Aaron Ramsey will rise to the occasion against rivals England when they face off on Tuesday evening. Both Bale and Ramsey were far from their best as Wales were well beaten by a resurgent Iran side Friday which left Wales rock bottom of Group B.

Allen said the pair are “two incredible players – they are and have been for our country,” as reported by BBC Sport. “I don’t think there’s anyone else in the squad who’s reached the heights they’re capable of. It’s a huge game coming up. They’re big-game players and always have been and hopefully, if any criticism has come their way, then they’ll be able to answer a few of those critics with a top performance.”

Allen was part of the historic Wales side who reached the semi-finals of the 2016 European Championship in France. This World Cup appearance is Wales’ first in 64 years but, to date, it has been an underwhelming adventure with the side failing to score from open play so far, only a Bale penalty being converted.

Allen is expected to be fit against England in what will be a huge boost for Rob Page’s men in midfield.
