According to talkSPORT, Southampton’s captain James Ward-Prowse has been told he can leave the club if they are to be relegated from the Premier League this season.
The 28-year-old has previously attracted interest from Tottenham and West Ham and also has admirers at Newcastle United.
Ward-Prowse has scored nine goals this season whilst providing three assists in 38 appearances for the Saints.
The Englishman is a product of the Southampton academy and has made over 402 appearances for the South coast club.
Southampton currently sit at the foot of the table, four points adrift from Everton in 17th and it appears increasingly likely that their 11-year stay in the top flight will come to end.
Although with still 21 points to play for, all hope is not lost and the Saints face two crucial six-pointers versus Bournemouth and Nottingham Forest before the end of the campaign.
Ward-Prowse will no doubt be the catalyst if any great escape does come to fruition.
