Speaking in the mixed zone after his Mexico team’s 2-0 loss to Argentina, Hirving Lozano said his team, on the verge of World Cup elimination, would keep fighting until the end while rejecting the notion that Mexico showed Lionel Messi’s side too much respect in Doha. The Napoli forward said:
“We have to turn the page… We still have a chance, we have faith and we’ll have to work on things for the next game. We are going to talk in the coming days and we’re going to work hard for the next game. If there is a one percent chance of making [the last 16], we’re going to fight for it.”
Asked if Mexico were too respectful of their opponents, Lozano replied: “No, we set up as the coach wanted and I think we did very well in the first half, but it was the small details that cost us in the second half.”
Mexico need to win their final Group C game with Saudi Arabia to have any chance of making the second round, a stage they have reached at every World Cup since 1986.
