Speaking in the aftermath of his team’s 2-1 win over Canada to top Group F in Qatar, Chelsea forward Hakim Ziyech explained his joy as Morocco made the last 16, telling beIN:
“We knew it was going to be difficult. We stayed true to our tactics and we remained united, we were as one on the pitch. We have written a new page in the history of Moroccan football and we’re very proud of it. Look around you, joy is overwhelming everyone – this is what we aspire to and we are truly proud of this achievement. I’m also very happy to have scored my first goal in the World Cup, it’s an indescribable feeling… Words escape me, but it’s a historic day for Morocco”.
Morocco now face Spain in the round of 16 in Qatar.
