Galatasaray make Arsenal’s Cédric a priority

Galatasaray want to close a deal for Arsenal’s Cédric (32) before February 9, the transfer deadline in Turkey.

According to Ben Jacobs, Galatasaray’s board have identified Cédric as a priority signing, due to his experience, and are ready to offer the Portuguese defender a two-and-a-half year contract.

Cédric has been named on the bench 11 times for Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal in the Premier League this season, but is yet to feature. He’s appeared just twice for the Gunners this season, 62 minutes in the Champions League, and three minutes in the EFL Cup.

With a contract expiring in the summer and no sign of an extension, it would appear that Arsenal would be willing to allow the right-back to depart the club he joined in July 2020 on a free transfer.

Since his move from Southampton, Cédric has played 61 games across all competitions, but has since been displaced by Ben White, while Thomas Partey and Takehiro Tomiyasu have also been deployed at right-back. Jurrien Timber is also working on his recovery following an ACL injury picked up in August.
