Gabriel Jesus wants to be back training next week

Arsenal manager, Mikel Arteta reveals Gabriel Jesus wants to return to training with the squad next week but says it’s “unrealistic”.

The 25-year-old sustained a knee injury during the World Cup with Brazil and needed to undergo surgery before starting the rehabilitation process. Arteta spoke to the media ahead of Arsenal’s FA Cup fourth round tie versus Manchester City on Friday.

“With him, I don’t know. He wants to be here next week but it’s unrealistic.” said Arteta. “He’s pushing and driving everyone there to the limits. I cannot give you an answer. Hopefully it will be weeks and not months but it was a serious injury and we have to respect that process as well,” added Arteta.

Eddie Nketiah has stepped up to fill the void left by Jesus and since domestic football returned following the World Cup, the 23-year-old has scored six goals in as many appearances including a brace against Manchester United.
