Fulham set to complete signing of Calvin Bassey from Ajax

As per Fabrizio Romano, Fulham are now set to sign Calvin Bassey from Ajax.

The Cottagers are said to be ‘closing in’ on a deal, and an agreement is in place which would see the Dutch side receive a €21m fee for the Nigerian international.

Following on, a medical has been booked and the final details are being sorted in order to finalize the transfer.

The 23-year-old signed for then-Alfred Schreuder’s side from Rangers one year ago for €23m, but has had an underwhelming season, making 39 appearances in all competitions for a disappointing Ajax side- who’s third place finish in the table was their worst since the 2008/09 Eredivisie season.

Able to play at both left-back and left centre-back, Bassey is understood to have always been Fulham’s first choice, ahead of Southampton’s Mohamed Salisu, as they look for a new left footed defender this summer, and he now looks set to join the London side as fellow central defender Todin Adarabioyo looks set to depart. With his contract set to expire next summer, The Englishman is understood to be ready for a move, and has already been the subject of interest from both Tottenham and AS Monaco.

This news marks another chapter in what has already been a chaotic transfer window at Craven Cottage this summer. Willian has signed on a further one-year deal at the side following the expiration of his previous contract in June, Raúl Jiménez has completed a £5.5m move from Premier League Rivals Wolves, meanwhile last season’s top scorer Aleksandar Mitrović, has already seen two £35m+ bids from Saudi Arabian side Al Hilal turned down, and looks set to force his way out of the club, having reportedly told his family that he ‘never wants to play for the club again’ -according to Sky Sports.

As well as the Serbian striker, Fulham manager Marco Silva has also been subject of bids from the Gulf state, however, has shown his commitment to the club by rejecting a two-year contract worth £40m from Al Ahli.
