Ferran Torres says he’ll stay at Barcelona amid talk of an exit

Spanish international Ferran Torres was impressive in FC Barcelona’s 5-3 defeat to Arsenal during the pre-season. Torres managed to net one among the three goals scored by the Catalan club. While he has made a great start to pre-season, reports have suggested that Torres will be leaving FC Barcelona in the current transfer window. The 23-year-old has been heavily linked with a move to Premier League clubs Aston Villa.

However, speaking after the defeat to Arsenal, Torres said he would be staying at Barcelona. The Spanish international said, “I have a contract here, I’m going to stay. I don’t care what is said about me. I’m going to work like anyone else. I am the first self-critic, it was not a good season last year but I learned a lot. These ups and downs have helped me to be stronger now.”

Last year, Torres did not have the best time with the Spanish giants. In 45 appearances for the club, Torres found the net seven times while he assisted thrice. When the 23-year-old joined Barcelona during the winter transfer window in 2021, he made an immediate impact at the club. It will be interesting to monitor whether Xavi shows faith in Torres and keeps him, or whether the Spanish player leaves the Catalan club.
