Fernando Santos on Cristiano Ronaldo move: “I don’t know, he’s focused on the World Cup.”

Questioned at his pre-match press conference on Cristiano Ronaldo’s reported potential move to Saudi Arabian club Al-Nassr, Portugal coach Fernando Santos said he had little knowledge of the reports while explaining it was the 37-year-old’s call to make. Santos said:

“I didn’t talk to him about it, I have nothing to do with it, I didn’t even know. I spoke with the players but this wasn’t discussed. It seems that it was in the Marca newspaper, I don’t know. It’s his decision, his issue, but he’s focused on the World Cup and helping the team, that’s what we talked about. Tomorrow will be a tremendously difficult game, between two very strong teams. It will be a very tough game, but we believe we‘ll win.”

Portugal face Switzerland in the last 16 at the World Cup on Tuesday.
