Brighton and Hove Albion midfielder Alexis Mac Allister has been heavily linked with a move away from the South Coast in recent weeks.
Jürgen Klopp’s Liverpool have been touted as the 24-year-old’s next club and Fabrizio Romano reports a deal could be completed in the next week.
Mac Allister released an Instagram post on Friday, stating: “It was an honour to represent Brighton & Hove Albion FC in a World Cup and to become the first ever World Cup winner for this club.
“I will never forget it (hopefully you will have more).
“Three and a half years and a half ago, we were fighting for relegation and today, after so much sacrifice, suffering and work, this group will be in the history of this club for becoming the first to play Europa League.
“We achieved it all together and that’s why we have to feel very proud. Vamos.”
The Argentine’s stock rose significantly following a triumphant World Cup victory in Qatar and his profile has continued to soar after a historic season with Brighton.
Mac Allister scored 12 goals this campaign whilst providing three assists in all competitions for the Seagulls.
After a difficult and disappointing season for Liverpool, Klopp has clearly identified the need for a midfield overhaul and there have been further midfield player rumours, outside of the Mac Allister links, regarding Borussia Mönchengladbach’s Manu Koné and OGC Nice’s Khéphren Thuram.
With the transfer window set reopen on Wednesday June, 14, a busy summer awaits the Reds.
