England players to adopt “Dave” the cat

England narrowly lost 2-1 to France in the quarter-finals of the World Cup at the Al Bayt Stadium in Al Khor on Saturday. Aurélien Tchouaméni opened the scoring before Harry Kane levelled from the spot but Olivier Giroud ultimately headed home the winning goal in the 78th minute.

During England’s stay at the Souq Al-Wakra hotel, just 11 miles south of Doha, Kyle Walker and John Stones have befriended a stray cat.

The pair have become very attached to “Dave”, while Walker had said they planned to adopt the cat and bring him home to England should the Three Lions become victorious. (Guardian)

Despite England’s heartbreaking defeat on Saturday, it seems the players have become far too fond of the cat to let him go.

“Dave” has since been transported to a local veterinary clinic for tests and vaccinations and will spend four months in quarantine before heading to England.

Whether he will return to the care of Walker or Stones is undecided.
