Dutch cancel Johan Cruyff Arena fan park due to Sinterklaas celebrations

As reported by De Telegraaf, the Dutch FA (KNVB) have cancelled their plans for a ‘House of Orange’ at Ajax’s Johan Cruyff Arena this Saturday during Netherlands’ last 16 match with the USA, due to Sinterklaas celebrations.

A similar type of event has been hosted by the Dutch federation for all three of their Group A games in Qatar, allowing fans to gather at stadiums to watch their national team’s matches together. However, lack of interest due to Sinterklaas means the ‘House of Orange’ will not occur.

A Christmas-like festival, Sinterklaas is celebrated on the eve of Saint Nicholas’ birthday of December 6th, as families gather to open gifts, feast and sing songs.
