As reported by Danish outlet Berlingske, Denmark’s football association (DBU) will not be supporting controversial FIFA president Gianni Infantino’s re-election. DBU chairman, Jesper Møller, said at a press conference in Qatar on Wednesday that:
“There are 211 countries in FIFA, and Infantino has a statement of support from 207 countries, but Denmark is not one of those countries and we are not going to support Infantino. It’s not a decision that we’ve made recently. We discussed it with the other Nordic countries back in August.”
Møller, a member of the European confederation UEFA’s executive committee, met with Infantino during Denmark’s 0-0 World Cup draw with Tunisia yesterday and it became clear that the two men are not aligned on several key issues facing the sport but the DBU chairman conceded that: “The deadline for nominating candidates for FIFA’s presidential election has expired. When you know in advance that Infantino has the support of 207 out of 211 countries, it’s not easy to find an opponent.”
