The Athletic have reported, that Crystal Palace have reached a verbal agreement to sign Matheus Franca from Flamengo. Talks reportedly began between the two clubs “well before the end of last season“, after club representatives from Palace watched Franca in Brazil earlier this year.
The 19-year-old made 29 appearances in all competitions for Flamengo in the 2022/23 campaign, scoring three goals, in just over 1000 minutes. Franca was predominantly played as a central attacking midfielder, however he also played several other positions, such as right wing, and as a second striker.
Transfermarkt currently value the Brazilian at €9.00m, however the fee Flamengo want for their youngster is closer to €25.00m, due to his potential ability at such a young age.
After Crystal Palace lost Wilfred Zaha this summer, joining Galatasaray on a free transfer, Franca will help to replace that attacking flair that Zaha offered. Michael Olise is also being rumoured with a move away from Selhurst Park, with both Chelsea and Manchester City interested.
