Cristiano Ronaldo: “In general, people like me.”

In a surprise appearance, speaking at a press conference after Portugal training ahead of the World Cup, Cristiano Ronaldo responded to the words of his former Real Madrid teammate Iker Casillas, who jumped to the Manchester United attacker’s defence after heavy recent criticism following the player’s explosive interview with Piers Morgan, in which the 37-year-old criticised United coach Erik Ten Hag and the club in general. Ronaldo said:

“I’ve been a professional for 21 years and almost nothing surprises me. I agree with Iker and hope to prove that this narrow criticism will soon stop. The people who like me are the important ones – this is my greatest motivation and greatest joy. I like to get up and go to training and make people happy to see me – whether it’s in Qatar, Lisbon, Manchester or anywhere else in the world… I know that people, in general, like me.”
