Cristiano Ronaldo believes he’d have Eusébio support in chasing World Cup goal record

In speaking to Livescore, Portuguese attacker Cristiano Ronaldo has explained he feels he would have former Portugal striker Eusébio’s support in chasing his national record of nine World Cup goals. Ronaldo said:

“It’s a good challenge. I have a lot of respect for Eusébio. All Portuguese football fans keep him in their hearts. He was an unbelievable person. But if I have the opportunity and if I have the chance, I think Eusebio will be happy in the sky and will be wishing me luck to beat his record.”

Ronaldo currently has seven goals at World Cups but is looking to surpass the Benfica legend who sadly passed away in 2014. Ronaldo, however, remains by far Portugal’s all time record goal scorer with a mammoth tally of 117 international goals in 191 caps to date as he closes in on the twentieth anniversary of his first cap, which was awarded back in August 2003. Eusébio sits third on the list with 41 goals in 64 caps, giving him a marginally stronger goals to game ratio than Ronaldo. Pauleta’s 47 strikes put him second.
