As per Andy Naylor of The Athletic, Chelsea have made an offer for Brighton’s Robert Sánchez.
It is understood that The Seagulls are yet to respond to the offer, but discussions are ongoing between the two sides.
The Blues’ bid for the Spanish international comes following their sale of Édouard Mendy to Saudi Arabian side Al Ahli for €18.5m this summer- who played in just 10 Premier League games last season, with Kepa Arrizabalaga instead taking up the role of starting number one.
However, despite Kepa rediscovering his form last year, Mauricio Pochettino’s new side are still looking to bolster their options in the goalkeeping department this summer. The 28-year-old has had a controversial and tumultuous spell during his time at the London side- having signed for €80m in August 2018 from Athletic Club- a fee which made him the most expensive goalkeeper of all-time.
As for Sanchez, the 25-year-old is looking for a move out of Albion having been displaced by Jason Steele in Roberto De Zerbi’s side 23 games last season. The Italian head coach claimed Steele was more suited for his preferred style when playing out of the back, and Sanchez subsequently requested to be left out of the squad several times towards the end of the season.
This news marks another chapter in what has already been a busy transfer window for Chelsea so far, with ten of last seasons first team squad already having departed, whilst the likes of Christopher Nkunku, Ângelo Gabriel, and Nicolas Jackson have all arrived at the Cobham training ground, with several others names still expected to join.
French centre-back Axel Disasi is set to arrive from AS Monaco, Montpellier’s Elye Wahi and Stade Rennais’ Lesley Ugochukwu are set to sign before being immediately sent out on loan to Strasbourg, whilst their pursuit of another Brighton player, Moisés Caicedo, still continues– with the Seagulls already rejecting several bids and demanding an £100m fee for the Ecuadorian.
