Chelsea reopen talks for Benfica midfielder Enzo Fernández

According to The Telegraph, Chelsea have reopened talks with Benfica for 22-year-old midfielder Enzo Fernández.

Chelsea saw a bid in the region of £70m plus add-ons rejected for the Argentine World Cup winner earlier in the window but it appears the West London side are prepared to go higher in order to get the deal done.

Fernández has a £105m release clause and Benfica have always insisted that they would only sell the midfielder this month if his release clause was triggered in one payment.

Chelsea have also targeted Brighton and Hove Albion midfielder Moisés Caicedo this window but their reported £55m bid was rejected by the Seagulls.

Fernández won the FIFA Young Player award at the World Cup after impressing in Argentina’s midfield.

With just over 24 hours remaining in the transfer window, Chelsea will be keen to secure the deal ahead of the transfer window deadline on Tuesday at 11pm.
