Chelsea agree £115m deal for Brighton’s Moisés Caicedo

As per David Ornstein of The Athletic, Chelsea have agreed a £115m deal for Brighton midfielder Moisés Caicedo.

The move will see the Ecuadorian international move for a British record fee and sign onto an eight-year deal with the London side, with an option of a further ninth year also included in the contract.

Meanwhile, a medical has been booked for tomorrow (Monday) morning, and the deal is set to be completed on the same day.

The Blues were initially outbid for Caicedo by Premier League rivals Liverpool, who agreed an £110m deal with Roberto De Zerbi’s side. However, the player eventually rejected the move to Merseyside, instead deciding to ‘keep his word’ and move to Chelsea, whom he had agreed personal terms with in may.

The newly agreed deal will see The Seagulls make a £100m plus profit on the €5m they signed the 21-year-old for from Independiente del Valle in February 2021.

Furthermore, the significant interest in the midfielder comes off the back of his first full season in English football, where he made 43 appearances in all competitions and stood out with his excellent reading of play, ball retention, and versatility. These traits saw him become a pivotal figure in Albion’s side, as they secured a 6th place in the Premier League and qualified for European Football for the first time in their history.

Chelsea struck this deal for Caicedo in the late hours of Sunday evening, just hours after Mauricio Pochettino’s took charge of his first Premier League game for the side- where they were held to a 1-1 draw by Jürgen Klopp’s Liverpool at Stamford Bridge.
