Championship Preview | Norwich host rivals Ipswich in a high-stake promotion match

Top of the Championship Ipswich travel 45 miles north to face their rivals Norwich in the East Anglian derby on Saturday at Carrow Road.

While bragging rights are always on the line, this weekend holds added significance for both teams, amplifying the stakes.

Norwich are currently sixth so they occupy a play-off spot and are four points clear of Coventry who sit in seventh – although the Sky Blues have a game in hand.

They’d been on a good run of form until their loss to Leicester last week, which may have halted some momentum.

Whereas, Kieran Mckenna’s side left it late against Southampton on Easter Monday through a last minute Jeremy Sarmiento winner.

This put them at the top of the pile but still remain only two points clear of Leicester who sit in third and one point ahead of Leeds in second.

However, recent history in this fixture hasn’t been to kind to the Tractor Boys as they haven’t beat the Canaries in nearly 15 years.

In the 13 games since then, Norwich have won seven of them while there has been six draws.

Coming into this one both sides will be confident of getting a positive result.

David Wagner’s side have had a rejuvenated second half of the season after a poor start which saw them sat in the bottom half of the table.

They have now won 14 out of their last 20 games which has propelled them into the playoffs.

On the other hand, Ipswich have won 9 of their last 10 and have the second best away record in the league.

The result could go either way but a there should be a guarantee of goals.

Norwich have scored in every home game since 6 January while Ipswich have only failed to score in one away game since the turn of the year.

In addition to this, Ipswich have scored the most goals in the league this season.

While Norwich are formidable at home and Ipswich are great travellers, its almost impossible to call.
