Cameroon coach Rigobert Song mispronounces names of his own squad

As reported by various outlets, Cameroon coach Rigobert Song struggled to pronounce some of his squad’s names as he read out his 26-man list for the World Cup at a press conference this weekend.

After the recent and controversial removal of previous coach Antonio Conceição, possibly due to government interference, Song has only been in charge for six games and stumbled over some of the names on his list, having to be helped by the watching journalists before an assistant also lent in to aid Song with the names, as evidenced by a video posted on social media.

This led to speculation from local press that the 46-year-old former Liverpool defender, who was capped 137 times by his country, did not pick the players in the squad himself. Cameroon’s full 26-man list for group games with Brazil Switzerland and Serbia in Qatar included veteran talisman Vincent Aboubakar and Bayern Munich striker Eric-Maxim Choupo-Moting.
