Brighton’s Moisés Caicedo rejects Liverpool in favour of move to Chelsea

As per Fabrizio Romano, Brighton’s Moisés Caicedo has rejected Liverpool, telling the club that he only wants to join Chelsea.

This is despite reports from David Ornstein on Thursday evening that, after an auction was held by Brighton, The Reds’ asserted themselves as highest bidders for the Ecuadorian international and agreed a British record £110m deal for the player- beating Chelsea to the signing in the process, who’s £100m offer was not enough.

However, with The Blues having personal terms agreed with the midfielder since the end of May, and he has now informed Liverpool that he intends to ‘keep his word’ and only move to Chelsea- despite a medical being booked at the Anfield club.

As a result, Mauricio Pochettino’s side are now set to bid again in order to get a deal completed with Brighton.

Whoever he moves to, the deal would see The Seagulls make a substantial profit on the €5m they signed the 21-year-old for from Independiente del Valle in February 2021.

The significant interest in Caicedo comes off the back of his first full season in English football, where he made 43 appearances in all competitions and stood out with his excellent reading of play, ball retention, and versatility. These traits saw him become a pivotal figure in Albion’s side, as they secured a 6th place in the Premier League and qualified for European Football for the first time in their history.

Whilst the end of this saga nears the end, the two clubs battling over Caicedo’s signature will face-off against each other once again this Sunday August 13, Chelsea will host Jürgen Klopp’s side at Stamford Bridge in the first Premier League game of the season.
