Brentford have reached an agreement with Swedish club Elfsborg to sign Hákon Valdimarsson (22), as first reported by Mike McGrath.
The Premier League side will pay a reported €3m to sign the highly-rated goalkeeper Valdimarsson, who has six caps for the Iceland national team. As further reported by The Athletic, the 22-year-old is flying to London in order to undergo his medical with Brentford.
Valdimarsson has a contract with Elfsborg until 2027 and also attracted interest from Aston Villa and Celtic.
During his time Elfsborg, Valdimarsson has played 49 games across all competitions, keeping 21 clean sheets.
Valdimarsson will provide competition to both Mark Flekken and Thomas Strakosha, the former is currently seen as the Bees’ number one with 20 games across all competitions, but only three clean sheets.
The Icelandic will also become the club’s third January signing after Yunus Emre Konak and Sergio Reguilón.
